Then they came, the Estraneo family. One of the members offered to take in one of the children and in return, pay an annual amount of money. Catherine’s father and the rest of the members made a discussion and agreed to give Catherine over to the family. They didn’t know what what will they do to her. But it wasn’t their place to ask. Her father, being the type to value the organization over his personal family, didn’t seem troubled his daughter was taken away from him.
Catherine was raised as normal kid. Until that happened, the discovery and banned of the Possession Bullet. Because of this, the Estraneo was considered outcasts and decided to pursue their scientific research. From her sheltered and quiet life she became a labrat. From age of 3 to 7 she was put through experiments and tests. However, it seemed nothing happened. Sure, she survived and her appearance change, her one dark brown hair is now turning pink, but that was it. So she was considered a failure. However, were they wrong in that deduction. The results were different then they originally planned.
You see, they were experimenting on her based on a topic. They were hoping she can drain energy from the living and inanimated and convert it into energy. They managed to get down the energy part..but it wasn't as they suspected. So they figured it went wrong and abandoned that project. What happened was that Catherine's Cloud Flame to slightly alter and brought to the surface. Through the various experiments, this gave her a few new tricks when using her flame. The main ability was: the ability to bend, manipulate and alter metal. Using her flames, she can alter the structure and shape and even make it larger or smaller.
Anyhow, shortly after discovering her new talent, she hatched a plan to escape. She managed to cause a small blackout and fleed from the Estraneo base as fast as her little legs can carry her and managed to escape. She fainted in exhaustion in a harbor, far away from her capitors. When she woke up, she was startled to see a man. This old age man looked a lot like the photos in the database of her decreased mother.
Turned out he was her grandpa on her mother's side. When he learned that she was his niece and what happend to her, her uncle was furious. It turned out her mother had a foolish crush on her father and followed him to Italy and got married. But when she saw his true character, it was too late to leave.
So her new found grandpa who she called Old Man [much to his annoyance] adopted her and decided to nurse her back to health. He was shocked about her new ability but decided she needed to be trained about them. However, he made her promise: not to use her special talent unless she was in real trouble or the oppoment deserved it. He explained that she should hide that as an ace in a hole. Catherine nodded with a smile and so they began to train.
Later, she was shocked to find out her tormentors died. She guessed it was due to an experiment like herself who had enough and slaughtered them. Still, her grandpa said she shouldn't let her anger and hatred cloud her mind. He said she can be grudgeful and resentful but don't let it cloud her judgement. The main focus of her combat training was one he considered imporant. One was hand to hand combat. Yes, abilities and weapons are nice, but what if you lose it during a fight or it breaks? THen what will you do? He taught her manuevers that used her flexiblity, speed, and also helped her enhanced her endurance. Basically, the style he taught her was to counter and deflect then strike percisely. He also taught her some swordplay and usage of daggers/knives. It was rough, but it was sort of fun to Kagerou. Her favorite was training in the field of acrobatics and gymnastics.
Finally, she was read at 13. Most of her training with her grandfather was done. The rest was to refine it and adapt it more to her style. Kagerou decided to go with her grandpa's father and join the group he was in. Much to her shock, it was the Vongola! Well..Partially. It was more like a fraction/branch. It was the Varia! She managed to get in after a grueling and demanding series fo test and so she became a member.
Three years passed, and Kagerou got stronger and more experienced. Recently, she was a bit pissed at the boss. She couldn't believe for the battle for the Decimo title, they picked a robot over her! Personally, she thinks it's the sexist part of them. This made her fume in anger and rage underneath her smile. It was creepy. However, she danced a mental victory dance when she heard the Boss and his group lost. She didn't rub it into their face though. Oh no, she knew better then that.
After that incident, she was award the Ring of the Cloud Guardian of the Varia. She was delighted and happy! Things were looking up for her. However, she wanted to scream at annoyance when SOMEONE sent her to Japan. The reason? To scout the problem, to gather information, give extra security, and watch the Vongola Decimo brats. They didn't know who she was..so yeah. She had the advantage and was suited for the task. But she didn't like it at al. For it was troublesome. But she relented and did as she was told.
